Steve McGrath has practiced in the employee benefits and executive compensation area since the enactment of the Employee Retirement Security Act of 1974. Mr. McGrath has served as the Firm's employee benefit and executive compensation practice leader for over 15 years. Prior to joining Conner & Winters, he served in a similar capacity for other law firms. Mr. McGrath advises large public corporations, privately-held entities, colleges, universities, governmental bodies and tax-exempt organizations. His employee benefits practice involves:
- The employee benefits aspects of mergers and acquisitions
- ERISA litigation
- Executive compensation
- Cash balance pension plan design
- Fiduciary and prohibited transaction issues
- Multiemployer plan issues
- Qualified plan and welfare plan design
- VEBA and taxable trust structuring, and
- General aspects of an employee benefit practice
Mr. McGrath is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Employee Benefits Law) and is a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel. Mr. McGrath is also listed as a Super Lawyer (Employee Benefits/ERISA). He previously served as Chairperson of the Flexible Benefits Advisory Council for the State of Oklahoma which was responsible for the design of the flexible benefits program offered to employees of the State of Oklahoma. Mr. McGrath is a former member of the Governor's Cabinet Review Team for Oklahoma Health and Human Services Department and a former member of the Board of Directors of the SouthWest Benefits Association.
Mr. McGrath is a frequent lecturer on employee benefits issues including conferences sponsored by the American Bankers Association, American Bar Association, American Law Institute, Bureau of National Affairs, SouthWest Benefits Association, Pennsylvania Bar Institute, Oklahoma Bar Association, various universities and other national associations.
